Michelle C. Ramos - Brief Profile
As a young child, Michelle C. Ramos made her aunt’s atelier her playground where her mother would assist in attending to her aunt’s growing clientele. Her aunt is Vida Doria-Legaspi, 1971 Bb. Pilipinas-Universe who owns the chain of Vida Doria Boutiques - the longest running chain of boutiques turning 36 years this year 2007.
After finishing a Management degree from San Sebastian College Recoletos in Manila, Michelle worked for her aunt in supervising the stores but she would always be in the working area where the cutters and the seamstresses were, not only because she grew up knowing them but more on the fascination with what they do, watching them as if they were painters working on Mona Lisas. She even learned the art of “beadworks” which they taught her very willingly. Here she discovered the artist inside her developing intensely.
So what happened? Her aunt transferred her to the quality control department where she could mingle with her “teachers” anytime she wanted. The Vida Doria Boutiques, known for clothes of utmost quality and ageless, classic designs, was instrumental in Michelle’s aim of not just coming up with a finished dress (or gown for that matter), but something that has passed strict quality control.
Working for her aunt easily led Michelle C. Ramos to a fashion design job in the Middle East – the City of Manama in Bahrain, where she specialized in gowns for the country’s elite and expat group. She worked there for almost five years until it was time to get married.
But as the saying goes: “Once a designer, always a designer”. Friends and friends of friends would still go to her for their formal dresses and wedding gowns. Its time to start designing again, full time!
